Arua Regional Referral Hospital

Arua Regional Referral Hospital (ARRH) is a government-funded hospital located in the city of Arua, in the West Nile sub-region, in the Northern Region of Uganda. It is one of the 15 Regional Referral Hospitals in Uganda, serving as a referral treatment center for the districts of Arua, Maracha, Yumbe, Koboko, Adjumani, Moyo, Nebbi, Zombo, Pakwach, Terego, Obongi, and Madi-Okollo.

The hospital is located in the central business district of Arua, approximately 495 kilometers, by road, northwest of Kampala, the capital and largest city of Uganda.

Overview[edit | edit source]

ARRH is a public hospital, funded by the Uganda Ministry of Health and general care in the hospital is free. It is one of the thirteen Regional Referral Hospitals in Uganda, which form the apex of the public health sub-districts. The hospital is designated as one of the fifteen Internship Hospitals in Uganda where graduates of Ugandan medical schools can serve one year of internship under the supervision of qualified specialists and consultants. Its bed capacity is 400, but often exceeds its capacity, especially in the maternity and pediatric wards.

The hospital offers the following services: General surgery, Internal medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and gynecology, Orthopedics, Dentistry, Ophthalmology, Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) services, Psychiatry, Radiology, Pathology, Antiretroviral therapy, Tuberculosis (TB) treatment, Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV, and Voluntary male circumcision.
