Astrid Krag
Astrid Krag (born 17 November 1982) is a Danish politician and member of the Social Democrats. She has served as the Minister for Social Affairs and Senior Citizens since 27 June 2019. Previously, she was the Minister for Health and Prevention from 2011 to 2014.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Astrid Krag was born in Vejle, Denmark. She attended the University of Copenhagen, where she studied political science.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
Astrid Krag began her political career as a member of the Socialist People's Party (SF). She was elected to the Folketing (the Danish Parliament) in the 2007 general election.
Minister for Health and Prevention[edit | edit source]
In October 2011, Krag was appointed as the Minister for Health and Prevention in the government led by Helle Thorning-Schmidt. During her tenure, she focused on public health issues, including the prevention of lifestyle-related diseases and the improvement of mental health services.
Transition to the Social Democrats[edit | edit source]
In January 2014, Krag left the Socialist People's Party and joined the Social Democrats. She cited differences in political direction as the reason for her departure.
Minister for Social Affairs and Senior Citizens[edit | edit source]
On 27 June 2019, Krag was appointed as the Minister for Social Affairs and Senior Citizens in the government led by Mette Frederiksen. In this role, she has worked on policies related to social welfare, senior citizen care, and the integration of immigrants.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Astrid Krag is married and has two children. She is known for her commitment to social issues and her advocacy for vulnerable groups in society.
