Azad Kashmir

Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) is a self-governing administrative division of Pakistan located in the northern part of the country. The territory lies west of the Indian-administered union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, and it shares borders with the Punjab province of Pakistan to the south, the Gilgit-Baltistan region to the north, and the Line of Control (LoC) separates it from the Indian-administered territories to the east.

Geography

Azad Jammu and Kashmir covers an area of 13,297 square kilometers (5,134 sq mi) and is mostly mountainous, with deep valleys and rivers. The region is home to some of the world's highest peaks, situated in the western Himalayas. History

The history of Azad Jammu and Kashmir is closely linked with the partition of British India in 1947, which led to the first Indo-Pak war over the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir. Following the ceasefire agreement in 1949, the region was divided between India and Pakistan along the Line of Control, with the western part coming under Pakistani control and named Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Government and Politics

Azad Jammu and Kashmir has its own government, consisting of a President, a Prime Minister, and a unicameral legislative assembly.
