Baliuag, Bulacan

Baliuag, Bulacan is a first-class municipality in the province of Bulacan, Philippines. It is often noted for its vibrant local culture, historical landmarks, and a rich tradition of craftsmanship.

Baliuag was founded in 1733 by Augustinian missionaries and was incorporated by the Spanish Governor-General on May 26, 1733. The town was a part of the province of Pampanga until it was transferred to Bulacan as a result of the 1848 reorganization of Philippine provinces.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Baliuag is located in the central part of the province of Bulacan. It is surrounded by the municipalities of Pulilan and Plaridel to the south, San Rafael to the east, Bustos and San Ildefonso to the north, and Candaba, Pampanga to the west.

Economy[edit | edit source]

The economy of Baliuag is primarily based on agriculture, with rice, corn, and vegetables as the main crops. The town is also known for its local industries such as weaving, wood carving, and furniture making.

Culture[edit | edit source]

Baliuag is famous for its Baliuag Lenten Procession, one of the oldest and longest Lenten processions in the Philippines. The town is also known for its Buntal Hat Festival, which showcases the town's traditional hat weaving industry.

Education[edit | edit source]

Baliuag has a number of public and private schools, including the Baliuag University, the first school granted full autonomy in Region III by the Commission on Higher Education.

Transportation[edit | edit source]

The town is accessible by land through the North Luzon Expressway, Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University, and the MacArthur Highway.
