Brian L. Strom

Brian L. Strom is an American epidemiologist and pharmacologist known for his contributions to the field of pharmacoepidemiology. He is currently the Chancellor of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences and the Executive Vice President for Health Affairs at Rutgers University.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Brian L. Strom was born in New York City. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Yale University and his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He also holds a Master of Public Health degree from the University of California, Berkeley.

Career[edit | edit source]

Strom began his career as a faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania, where he eventually became the Chair of the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology. He was instrumental in establishing the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (CCEB) at the University of Pennsylvania, which has become a leading institution in the field.

In 2014, Strom was appointed as the inaugural Chancellor of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences, a division of Rutgers University that encompasses eight schools and several research centers and institutes.

Contributions to Pharmacoepidemiology[edit | edit source]

Strom is widely recognized for his pioneering work in pharmacoepidemiology, a field that studies the uses and effects of drugs in large numbers of people. He has authored numerous articles and books on the subject, including the widely used textbook "Pharmacoepidemiology."

Throughout his career, Strom has received numerous awards and honors, including election to the Institute of Medicine (now the National Academy of Medicine), and the American Epidemiological Society.
