Centegra Health System

Centegra Health System was a system of health care providers in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. It consisted of three hospitals, two fitness centers, four immediate care centers, several physician care locations, and various specialty care services. Founded in 1995, Centegra Health System employed over 4,000 employees, 500 volunteers, and 460 physicians in 2013. On September 1, 2018, Centegra was acquired by Northwestern Medicine, making it the largest independent employer in McHenry County prior to the acquisition.

1910s-1980s[edit | edit source]

Centegra Health System was established in 1995. The journey began in 1914 when a group of physicians obtained a charter for a hospital in Woodstock, Illinois. Woodstock Memorial Hospital was built in 1956, and a clinic was constructed in McHenry, Illinois in the same year. With the growing population, a new hospital named Northern Illinois Medical Center was built in McHenry.

1990s[edit | edit source]

In the early 1990s, health planners in McHenry County collaborated with hospitals and physicians in the area. This led to the formation of Centegra Health System in 1995, with the construction of Memorial Medical Center in Woodstock and Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center in Crystal Lake. Centegra Primary Care was also established during this time.

Huntley Health Campus[edit | edit source]

The Centegra Health Campus in Huntley, Illinois was built in 2008. It included Centegra Physician Care, Centegra Immediate Care, and Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Centers. In 2011, Centegra announced plans to build a hospital on the Centegra Health Campus in Huntley. The hospital was completed and opened in 2016.

Centegra Hospital — Woodstock[edit | edit source]

Centegra Hospital — Woodstock, also known as Memorial Medical Center (MMC), was a 135-bed hospital. In September 2018, it became Northwestern Medicine Woodstock Hospital. A 40-bed Behavioral Health unit was opened within Centegra Hospital — Woodstock in 2015 and continues to operate under Northwestern Medicine.

Centegra Hospital — McHenry[edit | edit source]

Centegra Hospital — McHenry, or Northern Illinois Medical Center (NIMC), was a 173-bed hospital. McHenry County's Flight for Life emergency medical helicopter service was based at this hospital.

With the acquisition by Northwestern Medicine, Centegra Health System became a part of a larger health care network, ensuring continued access to quality care for the residents of McHenry County.
