Charlotte County is a county located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 11,473. Its county seat is Charlotte Court House.

Charlotte County was formed in 1764 from Lunenburg County. It was named for Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the queen consort of King George III of Great Britain.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 478 square miles (1,240 km²), of which 475 square miles (1,230 km²) is land and 3 square miles (7.8 km²) (0.6%) is water.

As of the census of 2020, there were 11,473 people, 4,831 households, and 3,217 families residing in the county. The population density was 24 people per square mile (9/km²). There were 5,567 housing units at an average density of 12 per square mile (5/km²).

  • Patrick Henry, a Founding Father and the first and sixth post-colonial Governor of Virginia, lived in Charlotte County.
