Christopher S. Ahmad
Christopher S. Ahmad is an American orthopedic surgeon and a prominent figure in the field of sports medicine. He is best known for his work as the head team physician for the New York Yankees and as a professor of orthopedic surgery at Columbia University Medical Center.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Christopher S. Ahmad was born in New York City. He completed his undergraduate studies at Columbia University, where he earned a degree in biomedical engineering. He then attended the New York University School of Medicine, where he received his M.D. degree. Following medical school, Ahmad completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Columbia University Medical Center and a fellowship in sports medicine at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles.

Ahmad began his career as an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. He joined the faculty at Columbia University Medical Center, where he currently serves as a professor of orthopedic surgery. He is also the director of the Center for Pediatric and Adolescent Sports Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
In addition to his academic and clinical roles, Ahmad is the head team physician for the New York Yankees, a position he has held since 2009. He also serves as a team physician for New York City Football Club and several local high schools and colleges.

Ahmad has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on topics related to sports medicine, particularly in the areas of shoulder and elbow injuries. He is known for his research on Tommy John surgery, a procedure used to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in the elbow, which is common among baseball pitchers.
