Etymology[edit | edit source]
The name "Clamato" is a portmanteau of "clam" and "tomato".
History[edit | edit source]
Clamato was produced in its earliest form by the Duffy-Mott company in 1966. The company, now known as Mott's, is currently a subsidiary of Keurig Dr Pepper. The drink was originally intended to be a hangover remedy.
Composition[edit | edit source]
Clamato is made from reconstituted tomato juice concentrate, which is flavored with spices and clam broth. The drink is typically consumed on its own, or used as a mix for cocktails such as the Bloody Mary or the Michelada.
