Clearfield County, Pennsylvania

Clearfield County, Pennsylvania is a county located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. As of the 2020 census, the population was 80,562. The county seat is Clearfield. The county was created on March 26, 1804, from parts of Huntingdon and Lycoming counties and was named for the clear fields found by early settlers.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,154 square miles (2,990 km²), of which 1,145 square miles (2,970 km²) is land and 9.0 square miles (23 km²) (0.8%) is water. The county is in the Appalachian Mountain region of the state.

As of the census of 2020, there were 80,562 people, 32,000 households, and 21,000 families residing in the county. The population density was 70 people per square mile (27/km²). There were 36,000 housing units at an average density of 31 per square mile (12/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 97.5% White, 1.2% Black or African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, and 0.8% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.9% of the population.

Clearfield County is governed by a board of three county commissioners. The county is part of the 25th Senatorial District in the Pennsylvania Senate and the 75th Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Federally, it is part of Pennsylvania's 15th congressional district.
