Dipankar Chatterji
Dipankar Chatterji is an eminent Indian molecular biologist and biophysicist. He is known for his significant contributions to the field of bacterial transcription and stress response.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Dipankar Chatterji was born in India. He completed his undergraduate studies in chemistry and went on to pursue a PhD in biochemistry.
Career[edit | edit source]
Chatterji began his career as a researcher in molecular biology. He has held various academic and research positions at prestigious institutions, including the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore. His research primarily focuses on the mechanisms of bacterial transcription and the stress response in Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
Research Contributions[edit | edit source]
Chatterji's work has provided deep insights into the sigma factors and their role in bacterial transcription. He has extensively studied the stringent response in bacteria, which is a survival mechanism under nutrient-deprived conditions. His research has implications for understanding tuberculosis and developing new therapeutic strategies.
Awards and Honors[edit | edit source]
Dipankar Chatterji has received numerous awards for his contributions to science, including the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology in Biological Sciences.
Professional Affiliations[edit | edit source]
Chatterji is a fellow of several prestigious scientific academies, including the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) and the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI).
Selected Publications[edit | edit source]
Chatterji has authored numerous research papers in high-impact scientific journals. Some of his notable publications include studies on the ppGpp molecule and its role in bacterial stress response.
