Disney's Hollywood Studios is a theme park located at the Walt Disney World Resort in Bay Lake, near Orlando, Florida. It was originally opened on May 1, 1989, as Disney-MGM Studios, and was rebranded in 2008 to its current name. The park is dedicated to the imagined worlds from film, television, music, and theater, drawing inspiration from the heyday of Hollywood in the 1930s and 1940s.
History[edit | edit source]
Disney's Hollywood Studios was developed as a response to the success of Universal Studios Florida. With the intention of creating a working studio alongside a theme park, it featured production facilities alongside attractions. Over the years, the focus shifted towards attractions and entertainment, with less emphasis on actual film and television production.
Attractions[edit | edit source]
The park is divided into several themed areas, each offering attractions, entertainment, dining, and shopping. Key areas include:
- Hollywood Boulevard: The main entrance of the park, modeled after the real street in Hollywood, California. It features the replica of the Chinese Theatre, which houses Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway.
- Echo Lake: Inspired by the Golden Age of Hollywood, this area features attractions like Star Tours – The Adventures Continue.
- Sunset Boulevard: This area features thrill rides such as The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith.
- Toy Story Land: Opened in 2018, this area is themed around the Toy Story franchise, featuring rides like Slinky Dog Dash and Toy Story Mania!.
- Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: Opened in 2019, this immersive land is set within the Star Wars universe, featuring attractions like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.
Entertainment[edit | edit source]
The park offers a variety of live shows and entertainment options, including the nighttime spectacular Fantasmic!, which features fireworks, characters, and water effects.
Dining[edit | edit source]
Disney's Hollywood Studios offers a range of dining options, from quick service to table service restaurants. Notable dining locations include The Hollywood Brown Derby, a replica of the famous Hollywood restaurant, and Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant, which simulates a 1950s drive-in theater.
Future Developments[edit | edit source]
The park continues to evolve, with new attractions and entertainment offerings being developed to enhance guest experiences and incorporate the latest in theme park technology.
