Fatih University (Turkish: Fatih Üniversitesi ) was a private university located in Istanbul, Turkey. It was established in 1996 and was closed in 2016 by the Turkish government.
History[edit | edit source]
Fatih University was founded in 1996 by the Turkish Association of Health and Medical Treatment. It was part of the Gülen movement, which is a transnational socially-conscious Islamic movement. The university was known for its emphasis on science, technology, and medicine.
In 2016, following the 2016 Turkish coup d'état attempt, the Turkish government closed Fatih University along with other institutions associated with the Gülen movement.
Academics[edit | edit source]
Fatih University offered a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs. The university was particularly noted for its medical school, which attracted students from various countries. The university also had faculties of engineering, business administration, and humanities.
Campus[edit | edit source]
The main campus of Fatih University was located in the Büyükçekmece district of Istanbul. The campus was equipped with modern facilities, including laboratories, libraries, and student housing.
Closure[edit | edit source]
The closure of Fatih University was part of a broader crackdown on institutions linked to the Gülen movement. The assets of the university were seized by the Turkish government, and its students were transferred to other universities.
