George F. Gao

George F. Gao is a renowned Chinese virologist and immunologist, currently serving as the Director-General of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) and the Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He is also a Professor in the Institute of Microbiology, CAS.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Gao was born in China. He received his Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). He then went on to earn his Master's degree in Structural Biology from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Gao completed his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Structural Biology from the University of Oxford, United Kingdom.

Career[edit | edit source]

After completing his education, Gao returned to China and began his career in the field of virology and immunology. He has made significant contributions to the understanding of influenza virus, HIV, hepatitis C virus, and other viral diseases. His research has been instrumental in the development of vaccines and therapeutics for these diseases.

In 2017, Gao was appointed as the Director-General of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC). In this role, he has been responsible for overseeing the country's public health and disease control efforts. He has also played a key role in China's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gao is also a Professor in the Institute of Microbiology, CAS, where he continues to conduct research in the field of virology and immunology. He is also the Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), one of the most prestigious scientific institutions in China.

Gao has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the field of virology and immunology.
