Harold Horace Hopkins (6 December 1918 – 22 October 1994) was a British physicist and engineer who made significant contributions to the field of optics and medical imaging. He is best known for his pioneering work in the development of fiber optics and endoscopy.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Harold Hopkins was born in Leicester, England. He attended Wyggeston Grammar School for Boys and later studied at University College, Leicester, where he earned a first-class degree in physics. He then went on to complete his PhD at Imperial College London under the supervision of George William Series.

Hopkins began his career as a lecturer at Imperial College London and later became a professor at the University of Reading. His research focused on the development of optical systems, and he made groundbreaking advancements in the field of fiber optics.
