Harvey Vernon Fineberg (born September 15, 1945) is an American physician and academic known for his work in public health and health policy. He has held several prominent positions in the field of health and medicine, including serving as the president of the Institute of Medicine (now the National Academy of Medicine) and the Dean of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Fineberg was born in New York City, New York. He earned his B.A. degree from Harvard College in 1967, followed by an M.D. from Harvard Medical School in 1971. He also holds a M.P.P. from the Harvard Kennedy School and a Ph.D. in Government from Harvard University.
Career[edit | edit source]
Fineberg began his career in academia, joining the faculty of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health where he eventually became the Dean. His research has focused on the evaluation of medical practices, the process of policy development, and the dissemination of medical innovations.
In 2002, Fineberg was appointed as the president of the Institute of Medicine, a position he held until 2014. During his tenure, he worked on numerous initiatives aimed at improving public health and healthcare systems.
