Heather Munroe-Blum
Heather Munroe-Blum is a Canadian psychologist and academic administrator. She served as the Principal and Vice-Chancellor of McGill University from 2003 to 2013. Munroe-Blum is the first woman to hold this position.
Early life and education[edit | edit source]
Munroe-Blum was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She completed her undergraduate degree in psychology at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario. She then went on to earn a Master's degree in social work from McGill University and a Ph.D. in epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Career[edit | edit source]
Before her tenure at McGill, Munroe-Blum served as the Vice-President of Research and International Relations at the University of Toronto. She has also held academic positions at York University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
At McGill, Munroe-Blum focused on increasing the university's research capacity and improving its international reputation. She also worked to increase the diversity of the student body and faculty.
Honours and awards[edit | edit source]
Munroe-Blum has received numerous awards and honours for her contributions to academia and public service. She is a Member of the Order of Canada, one of the country's highest civilian honours. She has also been awarded honorary degrees from several universities, including the University of Waterloo and Queen's University.
Personal life[edit | edit source]
Munroe-Blum is married to Leonard Blum, an investment banker. They have one daughter.
