Horizontal Section is a term used in various fields such as geology, architecture, and medicine. It refers to a cross-section obtained by slicing, actually or through imaging techniques, an object or structure in a horizontal plane.

Geology[edit | edit source]

In geology, a horizontal section is a graphical representation of a portion of the Earth's crust based on surface and subsurface geological observations. It is a two-dimensional slice through the three-dimensional spatial arrangement of rocks. Horizontal sections are used to understand the distribution of rock units in terms of their depth, thickness, and spatial relationship with other geological features.

Architecture[edit | edit source]

In architecture, a horizontal section, also known as a plan view, is a technical drawing of a building (or building project) that cuts the structure horizontally at an eye level viewpoint. It provides a view from the top looking down, showing the arrangement of spaces within the building at a particular level.

Medicine[edit | edit source]

In medicine, a horizontal section refers to a slice of tissue or body structure that is cut along the horizontal plane. This is commonly used in imaging techniques such as MRI and CT scan to visualize the internal structures of the body.
