Incredibles 2 is a 2018 American computer-animated superhero film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Written and directed by Brad Bird, it is the sequel to the 2004 film The Incredibles and the second full-length installment of the Incredibles franchise. The film features the voices of Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Sarah Vowell, Huck Milner, Samuel L. Jackson, and Bob Odenkirk.
Plot[edit | edit source]
The story picks up immediately after the events of The Incredibles. The Parr family—Bob (Mr. Incredible), Helen (Elastigirl), Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack—continue to live their lives as superheroes. However, their efforts to maintain a normal life are challenged when a new villain, the Screenslaver, emerges. Helen is recruited to lead a campaign to bring Supers back, while Bob navigates the day-to-day heroics of "normal" life at home with the kids.
Characters[edit | edit source]
- Bob Parr (Mr. Incredible) (voiced by Craig T. Nelson): The father of the Parr family who possesses super strength.
- Helen Parr (Elastigirl) (voiced by Holly Hunter): The mother of the Parr family who can stretch her body to great lengths.
- Violet Parr (voiced by Sarah Vowell): The teenage daughter who can become invisible and create force fields.
- Dash Parr (voiced by Huck Milner): The energetic son who has super speed.
- Jack-Jack Parr (voiced by Eli Fucile): The baby of the family who has a variety of powers.
- Lucius Best (Frozone) (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson): Bob's best friend who can create ice.
- Winston Deavor (voiced by Bob Odenkirk): A wealthy businessman who wants to bring back the Supers.
- Evelyn Deavor (voiced by Catherine Keener): Winston's sister and a technological genius.
Production[edit | edit source]
The film was officially announced in March 2014. Brad Bird returned to write and direct the sequel, with most of the original cast reprising their roles. Michael Giacchino also returned to compose the score. The animation team faced the challenge of updating the characters and settings to match advancements in technology since the first film.
Release[edit | edit source]
Incredibles 2 premiered in Los Angeles on June 5, 2018, and was released in the United States on June 15, 2018. The film was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $1.2 billion worldwide, making it the fourth highest-grossing film of 2018 and the second highest-grossing animated film of all time at the time of its release.
Reception[edit | edit source]
The film received positive reviews from critics, who praised its animation, voice acting, humor, and action sequences. It was nominated for several awards, including the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
