Ivan Đikić (born 28 May 1966) is a Croatian-German molecular biologist and biochemist known for his research in the field of ubiquitin biology and cancer research. He is a professor at the Goethe University Frankfurt and the director of the Institute of Biochemistry II.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Ivan Đikić was born in Zagreb, Croatia. He completed his medical degree at the University of Zagreb in 1991. Following his graduation, he pursued a Ph.D. in molecular biology at the University of Zagreb and later at the New York University School of Medicine.

Career[edit | edit source]

Đikić began his postdoctoral research at the New York University School of Medicine under the mentorship of Joseph Schlessinger. In 2002, he moved to Germany to join the Goethe University Frankfurt, where he became a full professor and the director of the Institute of Biochemistry II.

Research[edit | edit source]

Ivan Đikić's research focuses on the role of ubiquitin in cellular processes and its implications in diseases such as cancer and neurodegenerative disorders. His work has significantly contributed to the understanding of how ubiquitin and ubiquitin-like proteins regulate various cellular functions.

Ubiquitin Biology[edit | edit source]

Đikić has made pioneering contributions to the field of ubiquitin biology. His research has elucidated the mechanisms by which ubiquitin signals are recognized and interpreted by cellular machinery. This has important implications for the development of new therapeutic strategies for diseases where ubiquitin pathways are dysregulated.

Cancer Research[edit | edit source]

In the field of cancer research, Đikić's work has focused on identifying molecular targets for cancer therapy. His studies have led to the discovery of novel pathways and molecules that can be targeted to inhibit cancer progression.
