Jamia Hamdard is a university located in New Delhi, India. It was established in 1989 by the Government of India under the Hamdard National Foundation, which is an educational trust founded by the renowned Unani practitioner Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed, and further nurtured by his illustrious son, Hakeem Abdul Hameed. The university was conceived to provide higher education in the fields of Pharmacy, Unani Medicine, and other areas of knowledge like Science, Management, Information Technology, and Law.

The foundation of Jamia Hamdard can be traced back to the establishment of a small Unani clinic in the year 1906 by Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed in Old Delhi. After the death of Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed, his son Hakeem Abdul Hameed expanded the mission to include education and research in various fields.
