Joel N. Blankson
Joel N. Blankson is a renowned immunologist and virologist known for his significant contributions to the field of HIV research. He is currently a professor of medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and a member of the Johns Hopkins Center for AIDS Research.

Blankson was born and raised in Ghana, where he developed an early interest in biology and medicine. He moved to the United States for his higher education, earning his undergraduate degree in biochemistry from the University of Maryland, College Park. He then pursued his medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he also completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in infectious diseases.

Blankson's research primarily focuses on the study of HIV controllers, a small group of HIV-infected individuals who are able to control the virus without antiretroviral therapy. His work has significantly advanced our understanding of the immune response to HIV and has potential implications for the development of an HIV vaccine.
In addition to his research, Blankson also serves as a mentor to young scientists and physicians, and is actively involved in teaching at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
