Kanyakumari Government Medical College

Kanyakumari Government Medical College (KGMC), also known as T.B. Hospital or Asaripallam Medical College, is a government medical college and hospital located in Asaripallam, Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu, South India. Established in 2001, KGMC is affiliated with the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University and is recognized by the Medical Council of India.

The site for the college was selected at the Govt. T.B. Hospital campus in Asaripallam, Nagercoil. In accordance with the Medical Council of India's instructions, the medical college and hospital are located on the same campus, with a 500-bed hospital. The first batch of MBBS students started in 2004.

Administration[edit | edit source]

KGMC is affiliated with the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University and is funded and managed by the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Hospital[edit | edit source]

The government hospital associated with KGMC is a multi-speciality facility that operates 24 hours a day, year-round. It serves as the tertiary care center for the district. The hospital has various blocks dedicated to different departments and services. The Out-Patient block is spacious and receives a high number of patients daily. A Heritage Block is dedicated to super speciality OPD. The main block has wards for gynaecology and obstetrics, paediatrics, orthopaedics, ENT, cancer, and two operation theatres, along with a 24-hour laboratory. CT and MRI scan facilities are available in the basement.

The Additional Block houses medical and surgical wards, intensive care units, and departments such as Radiology and Anaesthesia. It has three operation theatres equipped with the latest instruments. Diagnostic facilities like X-Ray, USG, ECHO, Bronchoscopy, and EEG are available on the ground floor.

The hospital also has dedicated blocks for Ophthalmology, casualty and emergency wards, Thoracic medicine, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Septic, Gastroenterology, Isolation, ART center, RNTCP center, and Blood Bank.

Within the campus, there is a 24-hour Police station and a mortuary. The drugs dispensary is located nearby.
