King Edward Medical University

King Edward Medical University (KEMU) is a public medical university located in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. Founded in 1860, the university is named after Edward VII.

King Edward Medical University was established in 1860 as the Lahore Medical School. It is the fourth oldest medical school in South Asia, after Medical College Kolkata (January 28, 1835), Madras Medical College, Chennai (February 2, 1835) and Grant Medical College, Bombay (1845).

Campus[edit | edit source]

The university campus is spread over an area of 32 acres. The university has a library, a research center, a dental hospital, and a number of other facilities.

Academics[edit | edit source]

The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in various fields of medicine. It is recognized by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council.

Affiliated hospitals[edit | edit source]

The university is affiliated with several hospitals across the country, including Mayo Hospital, Lady Willingdon Hospital, and Allama Iqbal Medical College.

Notable alumni[edit | edit source]

Many of the university's alumni have gone on to have successful careers in medicine, both in Pakistan and abroad. Notable alumni include Abdus Salam, the first Pakistani to receive a Nobel Prize in the sciences.
