Lichen nitidus

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Lichen Nitidus is a rare skin condition characterized by tiny, flesh-colored, shiny bumps that may appear as a rash. These bumps are usually the same color as the skin but may appear lighter or darker. They are often found on the arms, legs, abdomen, and genitals.

Symptoms[edit | edit source]

The primary symptom of Lichen Nitidus is the appearance of small, shiny bumps on the skin. These bumps are typically less than 1 millimeter in diameter and may be flat-topped or dome-shaped. They are often grouped together in patches and may be slightly itchy.

Causes[edit | edit source]

The exact cause of Lichen Nitidus is unknown. It is not contagious and does not appear to be hereditary. Some researchers believe it may be an autoimmune disorder, in which the body's immune system attacks its own cells.

Diagnosis[edit | edit source]

Lichen Nitidus is diagnosed through a physical examination of the skin. A dermatologist may also perform a skin biopsy, in which a small sample of skin is removed and examined under a microscope.

Treatment[edit | edit source]

There is no cure for Lichen Nitidus, but the condition often resolves on its own without treatment. If the bumps are itchy or uncomfortable, a doctor may prescribe a topical steroid cream to reduce inflammation.
