List of Medical Schools

A medical school is a tertiary educational institution, or part of such an institution, that teaches medicine, and awards a professional degree for physicians and surgeons. Such medical degrees include the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS, MBChB, BMBS), Doctor of Medicine (MD), or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO). Many medical schools also offer additional degrees, such as a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master's degree (MSc), or other post-secondary education. Medical schools can also carry out medical research and operate teaching hospitals. Around the world, criteria, structure, teaching methodology, and nature of medical programs offered at medical schools vary considerably. Medical schools are often highly competitive, using standardized entrance examinations, as well as GPA and leadership roles, to narrow the selection criteria for candidates.

Admission Process[edit | edit source]

The admission process for medical schools varies by country and institution. Generally, it involves a combination of academic qualifications, entrance exams, interviews, and sometimes practical assessments. Common entrance exams include the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) in the United States and Canada, the Graduate Medical School Admissions Test (GAMSAT) in Australia, Ireland, and the UK, and the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) in India.

Curriculum[edit | edit source]

The curriculum at medical schools is typically divided into two main parts: pre-clinical and clinical. The pre-clinical phase involves studying basic sciences such as anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, and pathology. The clinical phase involves hands-on training in hospitals and clinics, where students learn to apply their knowledge in real-world settings under the supervision of experienced physicians.
