Llew Edwards (politician)
Llew Edwards (2 August 1935 – 26 May 2021) was an Australian politician and medical practitioner. He served as a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly and held various ministerial positions in the Queensland Government.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Llewellyn Stephen Edwards was born on 2 August 1935 in Ipswich, Queensland. He attended Ipswich Grammar School and later studied medicine at the University of Queensland, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS).
Medical Career[edit | edit source]
Before entering politics, Edwards worked as a medical practitioner. He was a respected general practitioner in the Ipswich area and contributed significantly to the local healthcare system.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
Edwards entered politics as a member of the Liberal Party of Australia (Queensland Division). He was elected to the Queensland Legislative Assembly for the seat of Ipswich in 1972.
Ministerial Roles[edit | edit source]
During his political career, Edwards held several key ministerial positions:
- Minister for Health (1974–1978)
- Minister for Health and Environment (1978–1980)
- Treasurer of Queensland (1980–1983)
- Deputy Premier of Queensland (1983)
