Lucban, Quezon

Lucban, Quezon is a municipality in the province of Quezon, Philippines. It is known for its rich history, cultural heritage, and vibrant festivals.

Lucban was established as a town by Franciscan missionaries in 1595, making it one of the oldest towns in the Philippines. The town was named after a certain tree called "Lucban" which is abundant in the area during the time of its establishment.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Lucban is located in the northern part of Quezon Province. It is bordered by the municipalities of Majayjay and Luisiana to the north, Tayabas to the south, Mauban and Sampaloc to the east, and Nagcarlan to the west.

Economy[edit | edit source]

The economy of Lucban is primarily based on agriculture, with rice, coconut, and vegetables as the main products. The town is also known for its handicrafts, particularly its hand-woven hats and bags made from local materials.

Culture[edit | edit source]

Lucban is famous for the Pahiyas Festival, an annual event held every May 15 in honor of San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of farmers. During the festival, houses are decorated with colorful and creative displays of agricultural products, particularly kiping, a rice paste wafer shaped into leaves.

Lucban is home to several educational institutions, including the Southern Luzon State University (SLSU), a state university offering various undergraduate and graduate programs.

Transportation[edit | edit source]

The town is accessible by land through the national highway from Manila, the country's capital. Jeepneys, tricycles, and buses are the main modes of transportation within the town.
