Magdalene College is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Cambridge. It was founded in 1428 as a Benedictine hostel, known as Buckingham College, before being refounded in 1542 as Magdalene College by Thomas Audley. Magdalene College was originally established as a Benedictine hostel in 1428. It was refounded in 1542 by Thomas Audley, who was the Lord Chancellor of England under Henry VIII. The college was named after Mary Magdalene, and its name is pronounced "Maudlin."
