Selwyn College, Cambridge
Selwyn College, Cambridge is a constituent college of the University of Cambridge in Cambridge, England. It was founded in 1882 in memory of George Augustus Selwyn, the first Bishop of New Zealand and later Bishop of Lichfield. The college is known for its distinctive red-brick buildings and its commitment to providing a supportive and inclusive environment for its students.

Selwyn College was established in 1882, following a campaign to create a college that would provide a university education for students who could not afford the fees of the older colleges. The college was named after George Augustus Selwyn, a prominent figure in the Anglican Church. The foundation stone was laid in 1882, and the college opened its doors to students in 1883.
Architecture[edit | edit source]
The college's main buildings are designed in the Victorian Gothic style, characterized by their red-brick construction. The original buildings were designed by the architect Sir Arthur Blomfield. Over the years, the college has expanded, adding new buildings to accommodate its growing student population. Notable additions include the Cripps Court, which was completed in 1969, and the Ann's Court, which was completed in 2005.
