Marcelo Castro is a Brazilian politician and physician. He is a member of the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB) and has served in various political roles throughout his career. Castro was born on September 9, 1950, in São Raimundo Nonato, a municipality in the state of Piauí, Brazil.

Marcelo Castro was born in São Raimundo Nonato, Piauí. He pursued his higher education in medicine, graduating from the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI). After completing his medical degree, he specialized in psychiatry.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
Marcelo Castro began his political career in the 1980s. He was first elected as a state deputy in the Legislative Assembly of Piauí in 1982. He served multiple terms in this role, gaining recognition for his work in healthcare and education.
In 1998, Castro was elected to the Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of the National Congress of Brazil. He has been re-elected several times, representing the state of Piauí. During his tenure, he has been involved in various legislative initiatives, particularly those related to healthcare, education, and social welfare.
Minister of Health[edit | edit source]
In October 2015, Marcelo Castro was appointed as the Minister of Health by then-President Dilma Rousseff. His tenure as Minister of Health was marked by efforts to combat the Zika virus outbreak, which posed a significant public health challenge in Brazil at the time. Castro's approach included public awareness campaigns and initiatives to control the mosquito population responsible for spreading the virus.
