Masaka Regional Referral Hospital

Masaka Regional Referral Hospital (also known as Masaka Hospital) is a hospital in the city of Masaka, in the Central Region of Uganda. It is one of the 13 Regional Referral Hospitals in the country.

The hospital is located in the central part of Masaka, approximately 132 kilometers (82 miles) southwest of Kampala, the capital and largest city of Uganda. The geographical coordinates of Masaka Regional Referral Hospital are: 0°20'24.0"S, 31°44'24.0"E.

Overview[edit | edit source]

Masaka Regional Referral Hospital is a public hospital, funded by the Uganda Ministry of Health. The hospital serves as the referral hospital for the districts of Masaka, Rakai, Kalangala, Lyantonde, Lwengo, Bukomansimbi, Kalungu, and Sembabule. It also serves as the teaching hospital for Uganda Martyrs University and other medical schools.

The hospital has a bed capacity of 330, but often accommodates more than its capacity. The hospital attends to an estimated 450,000 patients annually, with most patients being referrals from lower health units.
