Michael K. Obeng was born in Ghana. He pursued his undergraduate studies at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he graduated with a degree in chemistry. He then attended Harvard Medical School, where he earned his M.D. degree. Following medical school, Obeng completed his residency in plastic surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch and a fellowship in hand and microvascular surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital.

Obeng has held various positions in the field of plastic surgery. He has served as the Chief of Plastic Surgery at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, Ohio. He is also the founder of MiKO Plastic Surgery and MiKO Surgery Center in Beverly Hills, California.
