Pentorex
Pentorex is a stimulant drug of the amphetamine class that was developed in the 1960s. It is used in the treatment of obesity and promotes weight loss by suppressing appetite. Pentorex is marketed under several brand names, including Modatonic and Foramil.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
Pentorex acts as a norepinephrine-releasing agent. It is a chiral compound and both the enantiomers are active, but they have different potencies. The (S)-enantiomer is the more potent of the two.
Side effects[edit | edit source]
The side effects of pentorex are similar to those of other amphetamines. These can include insomnia, hyperactivity, irritability, and anxiety. In rare cases, it can cause more serious side effects such as psychosis, hypertension, and heart disease.
Legal status[edit | edit source]
Pentorex is a controlled substance in many countries due to its potential for abuse and addiction. In the United States, it is classified as a Schedule III controlled substance under the Controlled Substances Act.
