Ram Nath Chopra
Ram Nath Chopra (1882–1973) was an eminent pharmacologist and physician from India. He is often referred to as the "Father of Indian Pharmacology" due to his significant contributions to the field.
Early Life and Education[edit]
Chopra was born in 1882 in Lahore, which was then part of British India. He completed his early education in Lahore before moving to England for higher studies. He graduated from the University of London with a degree in medicine and surgery.
Career[edit]
Upon returning to India, Chopra joined the Indian Medical Service (IMS) and was posted in various parts of the country. He was instrumental in establishing the Drug Research Laboratory in Jammu and Kashmir, which played a crucial role in the development of pharmacology in India.
Chopra's research primarily focused on indigenous drugs and their therapeutic uses. He conducted extensive studies on the pharmacological properties of various Ayurvedic and Unani medicines, contributing significantly to the scientific understanding of these traditional systems of medicine.
