Stolichnaya[edit | edit source]

Stolichnaya, often referred to as Stoli, is a renowned brand of vodka that originated in Russia. The brand name, Stolichnaya, is a derivative of the word 'stolitsa', which translates to 'capital city' in English. The brand is recognized for its high-quality vodka, produced using traditional Russian methods.

History[edit | edit source]

The origins of Stolichnaya can be traced back to the early 20th century. The brand was officially established in 1938 by the State Wine Warehouse No. 1, a state-owned enterprise in Moscow. The brand gained international recognition in the 1960s when it was first exported to the United States.

Production[edit | edit source]

Stolichnaya vodka is produced using a unique blend of wheat and rye grains. The grains are fermented and then distilled to produce a high-proof spirit. This spirit is then filtered through quartz, sand, activated charcoal, and finally through woven cloth. The vodka is then diluted with artesian well water before it is bottled.

Varieties[edit | edit source]

Stolichnaya offers a range of vodka varieties, including the classic Stolichnaya Premium Vodka, as well as a selection of flavored vodkas. Some of the popular flavors include Stolichnaya Blueberi, Stolichnaya Razberi, and Stolichnaya Vanil.

Recognition[edit | edit source]

Stolichnaya has received numerous awards and accolades for its quality and taste. It has been recognized at several international spirits competitions, including the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the International Wine and Spirit Competition.

Controversy[edit | edit source]

The brand has been the subject of a long-standing dispute between SPI Group, a company based in Luxembourg, and the Russian state-owned company, FKP Soyuzplodoimport. Both companies claim ownership of the Stolichnaya brand.
