University Of Miami
University of Miami (UM) is a private research university located in Coral Gables, Florida, United States. With over 17,000 students from around the world, the University of Miami is a vibrant and diverse academic community focused on teaching and learning, the discovery of new knowledge, and service to the South Florida region and beyond.

The University of Miami was chartered in 1925 by a group of citizens who felt an institution of higher learning was needed for the development of their young and growing community. The inaugural class consisted of 560 students. Over the years, the University has grown significantly, now offering 132 undergraduate, 148 master's, and 67 doctoral degree programs.
Campus[edit | edit source]
The University of Miami's main campus spans 239 acres in Coral Gables and is home to two colleges and seven schools. The campus is known for its impressive architecture, lush landscaping, and a variety of facilities including the Lowe Art Museum, the Richter Library, and the BankUnited Center, a top-ranked venue for music, sports, and entertainment.
Academics[edit | edit source]
The University of Miami offers a wide range of programs through its 11 schools and colleges. These include the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Business Administration, the School of Communication, the College of Engineering, the School of Education and Human Development, the School of Law, the Miller School of Medicine, the Frost School of Music, the School of Nursing and Health Studies, the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, and the School of Architecture.
Athletics[edit | edit source]
The University of Miami's athletic teams, known as the Miami Hurricanes, compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The Hurricanes have won multiple national championships and Miami's athletes have made numerous appearances in professional sports.
Notable alumni[edit | edit source]
The University of Miami has over 180,000 alumni. Notable alumni include singer Gloria Estefan, actor Sylvester Stallone, and former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Donna Shalala.
