Veggie Burger

A veggie burger is a hamburger-style, or chicken-style, patty that does not contain meat, but may contain animal products such as egg or milk. The patty of a veggie burger may be made from ingredients like beans, tofu, nuts, mushrooms, or grains or seeds, like wheat and flax.

The veggie burger, by name, is believed to have been created in London in 1982 by Gregg's a fast food company. The term "veggie burger" has been used to describe a meatless burger and has been in use since at least the early 1980s.

Ingredients[edit | edit source]

The main ingredients of a veggie burger are legumes (like soybeans or chickpeas), tofu, mushrooms, nuts, grains or seeds, like wheat and flax. Some veggie burgers also contain dairy products or eggs as a binder.

Nutrition[edit | edit source]

Veggie burgers are generally lower in calories and fat and higher in fiber than beef, chicken, and some other meat-based burgers. They are also usually rich in protein and can be very high in vitamins and minerals.
