Creighton

Creighton is a private, Jesuit university located in Omaha, Nebraska, United States. Founded by the Society of Jesus in 1878, the university is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Creighton is the largest private religious university in Nebraska.

Creighton was founded as Creighton College on September 2, 1878 through a gift from Mary Lucretia Creighton, who stipulated in her will that a school be established in memory of her husband, prominent Omaha businessman Edward Creighton. The school was incorporated in 1879.

Academics[edit | edit source]

Creighton's nine schools and colleges deliver powerful education that connects arts, law, business, healthcare and the sciences. The university offers a number of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs.

Campus[edit | edit source]

The university's campus spans over 130 acres in Omaha's downtown business district. It includes the Creighton University Medical Center and a variety of other academic, residential, and athletic facilities.

Athletics[edit | edit source]

Creighton's athletic teams, known as the Bluejays, compete in the Big East Conference of NCAA Division I. The Bluejays have a strong tradition in men's basketball and women's volleyball.

Notable alumni[edit | edit source]

Creighton has produced a number of notable alumni, including several Rhodes Scholars, a Nobel laureate, and numerous leaders in various fields.
