Dihydrotestosterone formate

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Dihydrotestosterone formate (DHT formate) is a synthetic androgen and anabolic steroid and a derivative of dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It is more commonly known as formebolone and has been used in the treatment of breast cancer and other conditions.

Chemistry[edit | edit source]

Dihydrotestosterone formate, also known as 17α-methyl-5α-dihydrotestosterone 17β-formate or as 17α-methyl-5α-androstan-17β-ol-3-one 17β-formate, is a synthetic androstane steroid and a derivative of DHT. It is specifically DHT with a formate ester at the C17β position and a methyl group at the C17α position.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

As an androgen, dihydrotestosterone formate has effects similar to those of other androgens like testosterone and DHT. It has both anabolic and androgenic effects. The anabolic effects promote the growth of muscle, while the androgenic effects are responsible for male sexual characteristics.

Medical uses[edit | edit source]

Dihydrotestosterone formate has been used in the treatment of breast cancer. It has also been used to treat other conditions, although its use is not widespread due to the availability of other treatments.

Side effects[edit | edit source]

Like other androgens, dihydrotestosterone formate can have side effects. These can include acne, hair loss, and prostate enlargement. It can also have effects on the liver, including potentially causing liver damage.
