Emerson Hospital

Emerson Hospital is a non-profit community hospital located in Concord, Massachusetts. It was founded in 1911 on 40 acres of land donated by Charles Emerson, a nephew of Ralph Waldo Emerson. The hospital has 177 beds and provides advanced medical services to over 300,000 individuals in 25 towns.

Emerson Hospital was originally known as the Deaconess Hospital when it opened in 1911. Facing financial difficulties, it incorporated in Concord and changed its name to Emerson Hospital in 1924. The hospital building was constructed in the Colonial style with a gambrel roof and terra cotta tiles. In 1982, the hospital created a parent corporation called Emerson Health System Inc. to develop a more comprehensive health system.

Notable Birth[edit | edit source]

In 1962, actor Steve Carell, known for his role as Michael Scott in the TV show The Office, was born in Emerson Hospital.
