Gökhan S. Hotamisligil is a Turkish-American scientist and professor renowned for his research in the fields of genetics, immunology, and metabolism. He is currently the James Stevens Simmons Professor of Genetics and Metabolism at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Gökhan S. Hotamisligil was born in Turkey. He completed his medical degree at the Ankara University School of Medicine. He later pursued a Ph.D. in molecular genetics at the Harvard Medical School.

Career[edit | edit source]

Hotamisligil began his career as a faculty member at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in 1995. He has since made significant contributions to the understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying obesity, diabetes, and metabolic diseases. His research has focused on the role of inflammation in metabolic diseases and the identification of novel therapeutic targets.

Hotamisligil's research has led to the discovery of several key molecules and pathways involved in metabolic regulation. Notably, his work on the endoplasmic reticulum stress response has provided insights into how cellular stress contributes to metabolic diseases.
