Genito-urinary system
Genito-urinary system is a part of the human body that includes the organs responsible for the production and excretion of urine and the reproductive system. It is also known as the urogenital system and is divided into two parts: the urinary system and the genital system.
Urinary System[edit | edit source]
The urinary system is responsible for the production, storage, and elimination of urine. It consists of two kidneys, two ureters, the urinary bladder, and the urethra.
Kidneys[edit | edit source]
The kidneys are bean-shaped organs that filter blood to produce urine. They remove waste products and excess substances from the blood, regulate electrolyte balance, and maintain the body's acid-base balance.
Ureters[edit | edit source]
The ureters are tubes that carry urine from the kidneys to the urinary bladder. They use peristalsis, a wave-like muscle contraction, to move the urine.
Urinary Bladder[edit | edit source]
The urinary bladder is a hollow muscular organ that stores urine until it is excreted from the body through the urethra.
Urethra[edit | edit source]
The urethra is a tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside of the body. In males, it also serves as a conduit for semen.
Genital System[edit | edit source]
The genital system is responsible for reproduction. It is divided into male and female systems.
Male Genital System[edit | edit source]
The male genital system consists of the testes, epididymis, vas deferens, seminal vesicles, prostate gland, and penis.
Female Genital System[edit | edit source]
The female genital system includes the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, and vagina.
Diseases and Disorders[edit | edit source]
There are many diseases and disorders that can affect the genito-urinary system, including urinary tract infections, kidney stones, prostate disorders, and sexually transmitted infections.
