Gorp

Gorp is a type of trail mix, often consumed as a snack in activities such as hiking, due to its lightweight, non-perishable, and high-energy content. The term "gorp", a colloquialism used primarily in North America, is believed to be an acronym for "Good Old Raisins and Peanuts", "Granola, Oats, Raisins, and Peanuts", or "Gobs of Raw Protein".

Composition[edit | edit source]

Gorp typically consists of a mixture of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, which provide quick energy and sustenance during physical activities. The most common ingredients include raisins, peanuts, and granola. However, variations may include other dried fruits, nuts, seeds, cereals, and sometimes chocolate or other sweets.

Nutritional Value[edit | edit source]

Due to its high content of proteins and carbohydrates, gorp is considered an ideal food for energy-intensive activities. It is also a good source of dietary fiber, vitamins, and minerals, which are essential for maintaining overall health.

History[edit | edit source]

The concept of combining various energy-dense foods for long journeys has been around for centuries. However, the term "gorp" and its association with trail mix is a relatively recent phenomenon, originating in the 20th century.
