Government Rajaji Hospital
Government Rajaji Hospital is a major state-owned hospital situated in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. The hospital provides tertiary care to more than twenty million people in the southern part of Tamil Nadu. The hospital is named after the leader of the Indian National Congress, C. Rajagopalachari.
History[edit]
The hospital was established in 1940. It was originally named Erskines Hospital. In 1973, it was renamed as Government Rajaji Hospital in honor of the last Governor-General of India, C. Rajagopalachari.
Facilities[edit]
Government Rajaji Hospital is a 2,080-bed hospital which includes 384 free beds. It is the main referral hospital for several districts in Tamil Nadu. The hospital has a daily outpatient turnover of about 3,000 patients.

The hospital has several departments including General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Anaesthesiology, Radiology, Radiotherapy, Nuclear Medicine, Medical Gastroenterology, Surgical Gastroenterology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Nephrology, Urology, Plastic Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, and Neonatology.
Medical College[edit]
The Madurai Medical College is attached to the hospital. The college offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in Medicine.
