Indian Punjab
Indian Punjab or Punjab is a state in the northern region of India. It is bordered by Pakistan to the west, the Indian states of Jammu and Kashmir to the north, Himachal Pradesh to the northeast, Haryana to the south and southeast, and Rajasthan to the southwest.

The history of Indian Punjab is a rich tapestry of cultural and political change. The region has been invaded and ruled by many different empires and races, including the Aryan, Maurya, Gupta, Persian, Mughal, Durrani, Sikh Empire, and the British Empire.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Indian Punjab is divided into three distinct regions: Majha, Doaba and Malwa. The Satluj River divides the Malwa and Doaba regions, while the Beas River divides the Doaba and Majha regions. The state is predominantly agricultural, with fertile plains dominating the landscape.

The culture of Indian Punjab is rich and diverse, with influences from the various empires that have ruled the region. The state is known for its music, dance, cuisine, and religious diversity. The traditional folk dance of Punjab is Bhangra, and the state's cuisine is known for its rich flavours, with dishes like Butter Chicken and Chole Bhature being popular worldwide.

The economy of Indian Punjab is largely based on agriculture, with the state being one of the largest producers of wheat in India. The state is also known for its industries, including textiles, machinery, metals, and automobiles.

The majority of the population in Indian Punjab practices Sikhism, followed by Hinduism. The state is also home to a significant number of Muslims, Christians, and Jains. The official language of the state is Punjabi, which is spoken by the majority of the population.

Indian Punjab is home to many universities and institutions of higher learning, including Punjab University, Chandigarh, Indian Institute of Technology Ropar, and Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology.
Politics[edit | edit source]
The politics of Indian Punjab is dominated by two major parties: the Indian National Congress and the Shiromani Akali Dal. The state has a unicameral legislature with 117 seats, and the Governor is the constitutional head of the state.
