J. Larry Jameson is an American physician and academic administrator known for his contributions to endocrinology and his leadership in medical education. He currently serves as the Dean of the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and the Executive Vice President of the University of Pennsylvania for the Health System.

Early life and education[edit | edit source]

J. Larry Jameson was born in Missouri, United States. He pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. He then attended the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, obtaining his MD degree. Following medical school, Jameson completed his residency in internal medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Academic and clinical work[edit | edit source]

After completing his residency, Jameson joined the faculty at the Harvard Medical School, where he began his career in academic medicine. His research focused on the molecular mechanisms of hormone action and the genetic basis of endocrine disorders.

Jameson later moved to the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, where he served as the Irving S. Cutter Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine. During his tenure at Northwestern, he was instrumental in expanding the department's research capabilities and clinical programs.
