Jung is a page dedicated to the life and works of Carl Gustav Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who founded analytical psychology. Jung's work has been influential in the fields of psychiatry, anthropology, archaeology, literature, philosophy, and religious studies.
Early Life[edit | edit source]
Carl Gustav Jung was born on 26 July 1875 in Kesswil, in the Swiss canton of Thurgau. His father, Paul Achilles Jung, was a pastor in the Swiss Reformed Church, and his mother, Emilie Preiswerk, came from a well-established Swiss family.
Career[edit | edit source]
Jung's career began in 1900 when he started working at the Burghölzli psychiatric hospital in Zurich. Here, he conducted research on schizophrenia and developed the word association test. In 1905, he was appointed as a lecturer in psychiatry at the University of Zurich.
Analytical Psychology[edit | edit source]
Jung is best known for his development of analytical psychology, a school of psychology that focuses on the importance of individual psyche and the personal quest for wholeness. Key concepts in analytical psychology include the collective unconscious, archetypes, and individuation.
Death and Legacy[edit | edit source]
Jung died on 6 June 1961 in Küsnacht, at the age of 85. His work continues to be influential in various fields, and his ideas have inspired a range of creative works.
