The University of Louisville School of Medicine began its journey as the Louisville Medical Institute in 1837. In less than a decade, by 1846, it evolved into the Medical Department of the University of Louisville. As the institution grew and expanded its influence, it underwent significant mergers to bolster its educational offerings. In 1907, the school integrated with the Kentucky University Medical Department. The following year, in a move to further consolidate medical education in the region, the school merged with both the Kentucky School of Medicine and the Louisville and Hospital Medical College.
