List of Brazilian Dishes

Brazilian cuisine is a rich and diverse collection of dishes, with influences from Portuguese, African, Native American, and European culinary traditions. This list includes some of the most popular and traditional Brazilian dishes.

Main Dishes[edit | edit source]

  • Feijoada - A black bean stew with pork, served with rice, collard greens, farofa, and orange slices. It is considered the national dish of Brazil.
  • Moqueca - A seafood stew made with fish, onions, garlic, tomatoes, and coriander, cooked in coconut milk. There are two main types: Moqueca Baiana from Bahia and Moqueca Capixaba from Espírito Santo.
  • Vatapá - A dish made from bread, shrimp, coconut milk, finely ground nuts and palm oil mashed into a creamy paste.
  • Acarajé - A deep-fried ball of black-eyed pea dough, filled with vatapá, shrimp, and other ingredients. It is a popular street food in Bahia.

Side Dishes[edit | edit source]

  • Farofa - Toasted cassava flour mixture, often served with rice and beans. It can be flavored with bacon, sausage, onions, or bananas.
  • Pão de queijo - Cheese bread made with cassava flour and Minas cheese. It is a popular snack and breakfast food in Brazil.
  • Coxinha - A popular street food, coxinha is a chicken croquette shaped like a chicken drumstick.

Desserts[edit | edit source]

  • Brigadeiro - A sweet, chocolate truffle-like treat made from condensed milk, cocoa powder, butter, and chocolate sprinkles.
  • Beijinho - A dessert made from condensed milk, coconut flakes, and sugar, rolled into balls and covered in granulated sugar.
  • Quindim - A sweet, yellow dessert made from sugar, egg yolks, and ground coconut.

Drinks[edit | edit source]

  • Caipirinha - Brazil's national cocktail, made with cachaça, sugar, and lime.
  • Guaraná Antarctica - A popular Brazilian soft drink made from the fruit of the guaraná plant.
  • Chimarrão - A traditional hot drink in South Brazil, made by steeping dried leaves from the yerba mate plant in hot water.
